About

Showcasing a series of works by the 2023 Robert Walters UK New Artist prize winner Sofia Laskari, Body and Flesh invites the viewer to consider the physical and mental challenges we face as individuals.

Laskari’s work is deeply personal, offering a relatable exploration of the human experience. In this series of paintings, she experiments with vibrant colours and textures to present vast surfaces of painterly flesh. Her often claustrophobic images – where powerful self-portraiture dominates in ambiguous recurring interiors – address feelings of isolation, distress, rage and vulnerability.

Body and Flesh is Laskari’s debut solo exhibition. She recently graduated with a BA in Fine Art and has previously exhibited in group shows at APT Gallery, SPG Galleries, RBSA Gallery and London Biennale 2023.

About

Rong Bao Is Me pays testament to Bao’s playful transformation of familiar objects through sculptural practice, prompting us to question our perception of the physical world. The exhibition will invite sensory interactions between audience and artwork, creating a playground of gestures that poke fun at the absurdity of posing order on society. Viewers should prepare to connect with their mischievous sides and participate in a world that pushes the boundaries of acceptability.

ABOUT RONG BAO

Bao has earned recognition on both national and international platforms. Notably, she was selected as one of the Top 10 emerging artists for the China UCCA Lab x Perrier New Emerging Artists and shortlisted for New Contemporaries 2022. In 2023, Bao secured the coveted theCOLAB / Royal College of Art / Yorkshire Sculpture Park Award. She recently received the Gilbert Bayes Prize 2024 awarded by the Royal Society of Sculptors and the Connections Through Culture 2023 grants program awarded by the British Council.

About

This exhibition marks the largest exhibition ever mounted in the 40+ year career of world-renowned photographic artist, Edward Burtynsky, who has dedicated his practice to bearing witness to the impact of human industry on the planet.

Curated by Marc Mayer, former Director of the National Gallery of Canada and Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal, the exhibition features 94 of Burtynsky’s large-format photographs as well as 13 high-resolution murals, and an augmented reality (AR) experience.

A centerpiece of the exhibition is the immersive film presentation of In the Wake of Progress (2022).  A never-before-seen element in this exhibition, referred to as the “Process Archive,” will also showcase Burtynsky’s navigation through each of the technological shifts in the photographic medium that have occurred over recent decades. The exhibition reveals Burtynsky’s lifelong observation of humanity’s incursion into the natural world and the environmental consequences of industrial processes.

Edward Burtynsky: “I have spent over 40 years bearing witness to how modern civilization has dramatically transformed our planet. At this time, the awareness of these issues presented by my large format images has never felt more urgent. I am grateful to be mounting the largest exhibition of my career at Saatchi Gallery in London, UK and I hope the exhibition experience will continue to provide inflection points for diverse conversations on these issues and move us all to a place of positive action.”

We acknowledge the support of the Canada Council for the Arts

As part of the ‘Burtynsky: Extraction/Abstraction’ exhibition, Saatchi Lates offer Art After Dark on selected Fridays from 6.30PM – 9PM.

Threads of Change: Art, Conversation, Action

Edward Burtynsky’s striking images ask us what we can do collectively to confront the ongoing climate crisis. In an act of collaborative making, participants at this workshop are invited to create a large-scale artwork using recycled materials whilst openly discussing these global issues.

Rug making – here, Rag Rug making – has a strong history of being a space for open conversation and communion through the act of creation. We ask participants to consider what we leave behind, and how can we come together to create a better world.

Art from Nature: Dendritic Monoprinting

In this session, participants will have the opportunity to explore the remarkable natural forms and patterns seen in Burtynsky’s images using dendritic monoprinting. This technique involves the use of recycled and organic materials, to create your own piece of artwork. You will explore the natural and abstract forms that occur throughout Burtynsky’s imagery.

Breast Cancer Now brings to the Saatchi Gallery an exhibition of photographs from the future. A groundbreaking series of images created by renowned photographer Jillian Edelstein with the assistance of cutting-edge AI technology. See the moments ten people living with secondary breast cancer want to see and learn how research could give people with the disease more time to live their lives.

About

Everyday Monuments showcases works by three emerging UK artists – Catriona Robertson, Jacob Talkowski and Alaric Hammond. Each uses everyday materials in innovative ways – re-utilising and revitalising materials that would otherwise be taken for granted, ignored, or discarded. The artists have taken base materials and infused them with power, meaning and significance.

Their works are beautiful objects in themselves but also invite contemplation of how we routinely use and interact with objects, technology, and architecture. The works invite us to take a fresh look at materials and objects in our own everyday life, outside of a gallery space.
