The arts have a profound impact on mental health and quality of life. Therefore, this project celebrated and promoted the arts among the older generation of RBKC in collaboration with Age UK K&C, by hosting a series of 10 tours and workshops themed around our recent Season of Sculpture exhibitions which included IF NOT NOW, WHEN? Generations of Women in Sculpture in Britain 1960-2023 and CHRISTO AND JEANNE-CLAUDE: BOUNDLESS. The sessions were specifically aimed at those with dementia as studies have shown that art therapy activities even help boost cognitive function in various areas of the brain and enhance communication, brain function and social interaction in people with dementia.

Here are some quotes from some of the participants:

A lovely social time learning new skills with great materials & wonderful tutors – Conchita

Staff were/are very helpful and I learnt a lot attending the sessions, so loved them. – Meng Lim

Something unique and different to do. – Frank

 On view – 11th – 21st January

Family resources: Activity Pack

As part of our charitable mission, Saatchi Gallery is proud to offer complimentary interactive workshops for educational and community groups. With the opening of If Not Now, When? and Christo & Jeanne-Claude: Boundless, the learning team are launching some new workshops which will deepen the participants’ understanding of the exhibitions through creative practice! These workshops are designed to be easily adapted to suit groups of all ages and abilities – the aim is to have fun and be creative, not to make copies or hyper realistic representations.

These workshops will use a range of materials and media such as clay, wire, paper mâché, polystyrene carving, collage and décollage to create sculptural works inspired by artists such as Christo and Jeanne-Claude, Yves Klein, César and Marcel Duchamp for the Christo & Jeanne-Claude: Boundless workshops, and Bridget Heriz, Christine Kowal-Post, Shirley Cameron, Pamela Storey, Carol Farrow and Michele Howarth for the If Not Now, When workshops!

All tours and workshops are subject to availability and priority goes to those from low income or disadvantaged groups.

Free tours and making workshops at Saatchi Gallery

Shout out to all LGBTQ+ young people aged 16-25! From November we are going to be working with the incredible Playhouse Theatre to deliver a series of tours, workshops and talks with special queer guest speakers. This will be part of a wider project which will give young people the chance to take part in making, as well as play readings in theatres and special support links.
