London, UK ([2 November] – The incredible artistic talents of young people from London are now being showcased in London’s iconic Saatchi Gallery. Featured works highlight their feelings towards issues most prominent in their lives, including climate change and equality. The selected finalists will be exhibited within Saatchi Gallery’s Learning Gallery from 21 October – 30 November.
The exhibition, Creative Collective, was initiated by Westminster City Council to encourage young people, aged under 18, to produce thought-provoking works of art that express their thoughts and feelings on major issues.
It enables young people, who might normally struggle to be represented in traditional ways, to convey their views through various art forms such as paintings, drawings, poems, short films and digital work.
After an open call earlier this year, the campaign engaged 500 young people from across Westminster.
The entries were first featured in Westminster’s libraries over the summer where members of the public were able to vote for which artwork they thought should feature in the prestigious Saatchi Gallery.
Head of Saatchi Gallery Learning, Florence Goodhand-Tait comments: ‘We are so excited to be collaborating for the second year in a row with Westminster City Council. I sincerely hope this leads to further collaborations as we are so inspired by the initiative and the young creatives taking part’.
Councillor Tim Roca, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Young People, Learning and Leisure at Westminster City Council comments: ‘The Creative Collective is a powerful and authentic way of gathering young people’s views and this year, the entries are truly outstanding. We are so pleased that we are partnering with Saatchi Gallery once again to showcase their talent and look forward to people across London being the first to see our next generation of artists’.
Creative Collective is free to Saatchi Gallery Members; those who have a pre-booked ticket to Saatchi Gallery’s exhibition The New Black Vanguard; or can be accessed via appointments booked on the Saatchi Gallery website.
